We understand that the prospect of writing a will may seem intimidating but it’s a vital legal document that ensures your wishes are carried out after you die and gives you and your loved ones assurance of what will happen to your property, assets and even children when you die.

How do I make a Will?

An experienced member of our will writing team will meet with you to identify areas to include in your will, as well as other opportunities you may wish to address.

What you include in your Will is flexible, however we usually recommend including:

Property – including your house and personal belongings
Assets – such as savings, stocks and cash
Children – You can use your will to appoint a guardian for children under 18
Executors – You should also include who is responsible for carrying out your will, this can be a lawyer, a member of your family or a close friend.

As making a will is a very personal experience, what happens after this meeting depends on what you wish to include. The more complex your wishes, the longer it will take us to write your will. However, we will keep you updated every step of the way to ensure you’re happy.

As long as you are over 18 and are of sound mind, you can make a will.
You should consider making a Will if you
- You own a property
- Are co-habiting with a partner
- Are married or intend on getting married in the near future
- Have children
- Have some savings in the bank
That’s not a problem. All you need to do is let us know as soon as possible if your circumstances change and we can accommodate this within your will.
Our will writing solicitors advise that you review your will regularly to make sure that it is still in line with your wishes. This also gives you the opportunity to account for any extra property or assets you may have acquired since making your will.
It also means that you don’t have to panic and think of every possible scenario when you first make your will.
We recommend that you review your will at every two years (and no more than five) to make sure that it is still in line with your wishes and that changes in circumstances are accommodated.
This can take into account for any extra property or assets you may have acquired since making your will or the changing of family circumstances such as births, marriages and divorces.
We will write to you after the initial 2 year period to remind you that a review is due, where you can contact us at your convenience.
It is possible to make your will yourself but we strongly advise against this.
Will writing solicitors are experts in this area of law and are required to hold a formal qualification, undertake ongoing training, be a member of a regulatory body and have insurance. This way you can rest assured that your will is of a high quality and won’t cause you any problems in the future.
Creating your will yourself, or using an unregulated will writer, could result in unforeseen problems with carrying out your wishes and could even render it void.
