Jordans Solicitors join The Kirkwood Support Life Champions

As part of Jordans Solicitors ongoing support of The Kirkwood, Lisa McGirr and Kim Hammond from our Wills and Probate team have recently completed training provided by The Kirkwood Support Life, becoming Support Life Champions. 

As part of their commitment, they will continue developing their knowledge about The Kirkwood Support Life and to help raise the profile in the local community. 

One area that Lisa and Kim are keen to address, is the misconceptions of what The Kirkwood Support Life is, and who they are here to help.

Many local people believe that The Kirkwood is just a Hospice in Dalton, a place where people go at the very end of their lives. They don’t realise that the Kirkwood Support Life can help anyone affected by any life limiting illness at any time from diagnosis or that they offer a wide range of services, ranging from community wellbeing sessions and specialist nursing care in people’s own homes to 24-hour care on their In-Patient Unit. They also offer one to one bereavement support and counselling for patients and those who care about them.

A misconception is that The Kirkwood Support Life only provides care for patients with cancer. A life limiting illness does not just mean cancer. It is a condition or illness that is progressive and which cannot be reversed by treatment, other examples are Dementia and COPD.

Another misconception is that people only access the services of The Kirkwood Support Life when approaching the end of life. Whether you are newly diagnosed and want a friendly chat about what the future may hold or are looking for support to manage your condition The Kirkwood Support Life are there for you. They offer support for families and carers and help with system management.
