Royal Sussex County Hospital under investigation: 90 deaths being investigated as possible manslaughter

The Guardian reports that the number of patient deaths being investigated as manslaughter at the Royal Sussex County Hospital has increased to 90.
Sussex Police have asked the Home Office for extra resources in dealing with its inquiry into University Hospitals Sussex Trust as they examine allegations of ‘medical negligence and cover-up in the general surgery and neurosurgery’ departments at the hospital between 2015 and 2021.
It is reported that a neurosurgeon who continues to operate at the trust had his practising privileges withdrawn at a Nuffield private hospital “due to a failure to engage in medical assurance governance processes”.
It has been suggested that the trust suspend some surgeons while the investigation is ongoing.
As reported by The Guardian, Sussex Police have confirmed “the medical experts will report on their findings” and have refused to provide a figure or breakdown of the deaths as it is “an active and ongoing investigation”.
