Man convicted or raping women he met online

Online

Late in 2024 Jamie Kadolski was found guilty at Norwich Crown Court of committing 9 sexual offences including the rape and sexual assault of women he had met online.

During the trial, the court heard that that Kadolski had worked as an ambulance service call handler but had told some of the women that he was a paramedic. It was said that he had used stickers on his employment ID to hide his actual position. He also posted a picture of himself on his online dating profile wearing a paramedic uniform.

One of the survivors of the abuse told the media that her decision to report the sexual abuse to the police was a "good decision", and she urged any other survivors to report incidents to the authorities. She said "If you’re in that place and you are willing and mentally ready to go to the police about it and discuss it, then absolutely do - you won’t regret it. You are not alone".

There were also calls for new legislation to make it a criminal act to pose as a paramedic similar to the existing laws relating to police officers.

There is nothing new in the use of fake online profiles to lure people in

The Online Safety Act 2023 put a duty on social media companies and search services that allow users to post content online – such as a dating app - to make them more responsible for the safety of the users on their platform.

Despite this legislation, there remains a significant risk in the use of online dating websites and apps to both men and women.

Compensation is a small step towards taking control of your life and getting the justice you deserve. If you are a survivor of sexual abuse after meeting someone online then may be able to make a claim to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority.

Justice for child abuse survivors should be accessible no matter how long ago it happened. That’s why we fought for a landmark change in the law, which allows an abuse claim to be brought before a court regardless of when it took place.
