Headteacher, Neil Foden who worked at North Wales High School, Ysgol Friars and was a short term ‘super head’ of another high school, Ysgol Dyffryn, has been convicted following allegations of grooming and sexual abuse. Foden would have unsupervised one to one sessions with the victims which would later evolve to trips to remote rural locations and hotels.

Concerns were raised by teachers in 2019, however these were not investigated and Foden went on to becoming super head at a different school. Parents of the victims have described this lack of action as ‘unforgivable.’

Foden has denied all allegations and claimed the victims have been lying. Evidence however was found in his car. A pair of lace handcuffs which contained traces of his DNA and that of another victim’s. Sexual text messages have also been revealed as one of the victims showed this to an adult as well as a picture of herself with Foden in his car. In police interviews she went on to describe the remote rural locations he would drive them to stating he would drive until she saw ‘haybales outside her window.’

To ensure no one would find out Foden would tell the child not to tell anyone what they did and that she must ‘take it to the grave.’ The child’s disclosure of the abuse to the police prompted other victims to come forward as news emerged.

Gwynedd council have said they are ‘appalled’ by Foden’s crimes and paid tribute to the courage and resilience to the victims.
