Operation Tourway is a long running investigation conducted by West Yorkshire Police into the grooming and sexual exploitation of at least eight young and vulnerable girls in the Kirklees area between 1999 and 2012.

Twenty eight men have now been convicted of crimes associated with the abuse with individual jail sentences given totalling nearly 400 years.

The prosecution was spread across a series of five trials over two years with the latest sentences being handed down on Friday 2 August 2024 when reporting restrictions were lifted meaning those responsible could finally be identified.

It is clear from the investigation that no matter how long ago these offences took place, the police will investigate complaints in order to bring the offenders to justice as happened here.

The courage and bravery shown by the victims in coming forward was praised by the police in enabling these sexual predators to be placed behind bars and that their convictions can at least give them some closure in the satisfaction of knowing they will not be free to prey on others.
