Shocking Rise In West Yorkshire Care Home Abuse

Elderley abuse

Figures recently obtained have shown a shocking rise in abuse in care and nursing homes in West Yorkshire.

According to Legal Expert, a Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request made to police forces around the country showed West Yorkshire is at its highest for 5 years.

Statistics showed that;

  • 2,090 crimes were recorded during 2023/24 compared to 1,243 in 2019/20, an increase of almost 70%
  • 1,029 in 2021/22
  • 1,319 in 2022/23
  • A total of 4,485 were recorded since 2019

Most common were crimes of violence which numbered 2,705 with 248 sexual offences reported.

Only 10% resulted in arrests – 439 in total – with no figures quoted for convictions.

Little comment has been made by the relevant authorities in respect of these figures and unfortunately the statistics only serve to fuel an increasing concern for the appalling way in which some of the most vulnerable people in our society are treated with no apparent measures in place to safeguard their futures.
