Russell Brand faces first known UK High Court lawsuit in relation to sexual abuse allegations

Russell Brand the 49-year-old comedian and actor is currently being sued in the High Court for alleged sexual abuse. In 2023, he was accused of rape sexual assault and emotional abuse dated between 2006 and 2013 by four women who stepped forward for an investigation by the Sunday Times and Channel 4s dispatches. Brand denied these accusations.
These allegations went on to be investigated by the Metropolitan Police who have said they received several reports of sexual offences from women in London. These claims were then passed on to the CPS who considered bringing charges against Brand however as yet no charges have been pressed.
However, it has recently become known that on the 6th of February 2025 a complaint was made by an anonymous claimant who has accused Brand of ‘personal injury’ and ‘sexual abuse.’ A civil lawsuit has been launched at the High Court in London and the Claimant is currently seeking damages with a civil claim. This is the first ever time Brand has faced serious legal action in the UK in relation to the charges.
Brand continues to deny the further allegations by referencing them as ‘egregious and aggressive attacks.’ He continues to say:
‘Amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute.
“These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in the newspapers all the time, when I was in the movies and as I have written about extensively in my books, I was very, very promiscuous.”
He continued: “Now during that time of promiscuity the relationships I had were absolutely, always consensual.
“I was always transparent about that then, almost too transparent, and I am being transparent about it now as well.
“To see that transparency metastasised into something criminal, that I absolutely deny, makes me question: is there another agenda at play?”
Last month, the BBC issued an apology as they found that while Brand was working with the corporation between 2006 and 2008, a number of people felt unable to come forward with concerns about him as they believed ‘he would always get his way.’
Brand is also currently facing civil sexual assault claims in America. This comes forward after a woman accused him of exposing himself and assaulting her in 2010. Brand went on to also deny these allegations and claimed all encounters have been consented to.
