Harrods Compensation Scheme for Survivors of abuse by Mohammed Al Fayed

On the 31st March 2025, Harrods published its compensation scheme for survivors of abuse by the former Harrods owner, Mohammed Al Fayed.
The scheme is expected to be open for a year and will be eligible for individuals who can prove a “sufficiently close connection” to Fayed’s role at Harrods”, it is not necessary to have been an employee of Harrods. All eligible applicants will be offered a meeting with a senior Harrod’s representative to receive an apology in person or by video as well as an individual written apology.
The scheme provides for documentary evidence to be presented, it will not be necessary for applicants to provide oral evidence and an acceptance of an offer under the scheme will be treated as in full and final settlement.
It allows for individuals to apply for different compensation amounts, including General Damages payments of up to £200,000 and a Work Impact Payment sum of up to £150,000. Past treatment costs will also be covered.
Also included within the scheme is a payment of up to £10,000 for employees who were abused through intrusive medical examinations when they were employed.
However, individuals who choose not to be medically assessed by a psychiatrist will receive lower payments.
An applicant’s legal costs will be paid for as part of the scheme.
