A significant development has unfolded in Greater Manchester, where PC Dean Dempster, a Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officer, stands accused of serious criminal conduct.

Dempster, 34, faces charges of sexual assault on a six-year-old girl and misconduct in a public office. The allegations pertain to an incident that reportedly occurred in Oldham on December 29, 2023, while Dempster was on duty.

Born on February 20, 1989, Dempster, a former Army reservist who joined GMP in 2021 after his roles as a special constable and ambulance service paramedic, was arrested on New Year’s Eve. Following an extensive investigation by GMP, he was charged with two offences: sexual assault by touching and misconduct in a public office.

He appeared in custody at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court and was subsequently remanded, with his next court appearance scheduled for January 16 at Liverpool Crown Court and he was denied bail.

Pending the outcome of the full criminal case, Dempster has been suspended from his duties at GMP. The force has also indicated that the internal misconduct proceedings against him will resume once the criminal proceedings have concluded.
